Seven- Minute MBA Minus Case Studies and Presentations

Insightful ideas are best expressed in short sentences. Students, and word-smiths ably compress essence of long notes into one-liners.  Edward de Bono, of lateral thinking fame, challenged us to distill profundities into 7-word phrases.  The following compilation was by JD Sweeney.

Use gift of words to lift others.
We are in this alone all together.
Dare to think and do new things.
Learn from a good idea gone bad.
Find a niche, then scratch to win.
A dreamer be, but become a doer.
Sell the vision and build the team.

Think big, start small, but act fast.
Do it now; not soon, not tomorrow.
Be alert and share all that matters.
It's never too late to cease smoking.
Chain smoke, go fast; be a statistic.
Be a connector of ideas and people.
Spot the best ideas and adapt them.

A good excuse doesn’t fix a problem.
Getting most out of every word pays.
Turn an ugly idea into elegant reality.
See opportunity in midst of disruption.
Solution applied too late is no solution.
Adapt, and adversity reveals its upside.
Become a serial producer of killer apps.

Seek safe, low-cost and no cost options.
Match ideas with action –spark with fire.
Apply your skills to problems that matter.
Never give up; adapt to changing situation.
Scan, focus, envision, reflect, tinker and innovate.
Winning isn’t everything -but striving to is.
See positives in every person and situation.

Learners and leaders have a lot in common.
It's ideas, initiatives and funding that count.
Have a healthy disregard for the impossible.
Those lacking critical thinking are easily led.
Leverage best of existing with the emerging.
Let evidence and results shape your opinion.
Uncover and implement overlooked solutions.

Edcation costs money, but so does ignorance.
Be informed, focus, reflect and get involved.
To make connections, keep all pieces visible.
Promote yourself by helping those around you.
Public action and consensus make a difference.
Great questions tend to beat smoothe answers.
Distance yourself from those who would belittle.

Try to keep exchanges objective and impersonal.
You can't control everything, only how you react.
Be agile, curious and interesting; else, mediocre.
As weeds amomg rocks, predjuices are tenacious.
Critique the proposal, don't attack the proponent.
Always be wary of absolutes and snap judgements.
Listen, read, analyze, process and make decisions.

Schedule time for deliberate learning and practice.
Being right when authorities are wrong -dangerous!
Talent is worthless unless perfected and performed.
Pray for care-givers, and use down-time purposfully.
Rather than squander time, be meaningfully focused.
Preparation & choice, not chance determines destiny.
Problem solvers are happier than bystanders & gripers.

For viral reaction, try One/Two punch:
Hot cause cool solution.
>In face of adversity, decide to survive.

>Adapt, and adversity will reveal its upside.
>What matters most is curiosity and thinking. >Double check for errors in correction attempts.
>Skip trivia; causes, ideas & initiatives count.
>From outset, gain insight into operations & priorities.
>It's ideas, initiatives and uncapped funding that count.
>Hey! Wake Up. Get up. Do smething.

Common Problems + Uncommon Solutions = Opportunity
Powerful Ideas plus Powerful Resolve = Powerful Results

To be persuasive be believable.
To be believable be credible.
To be credible be truthful.
To be truthful be human.
To be human be engaging.
To be engaging be questioning.
To be questioning be attentive.

Persistance is what makes
The impossible possible
The possible likely
The likey doable.

Presumption is what’s said is relevant,
What is relevant is also understood,
What’s understood is retained, and
What’s retained is usable and used.

In 38 words, Ayn Rand said it best:

"Ideas cannot be fought except by means of better ideas. The battle consists not of opposing, but of exposing; not of denouncing. but of disapproving; not of evading, but of boldly proclaiming a full, consistant and radical alternative."

An excellent credo for mentors and advocacy bloggers alike.

Keep well,      =/;-j

What you do defines you, not grades. The best ideas often come from teams.
