Villages Key to Containing Explosive GTA Growth

The keys to "smart and sustainable growth" are strategically located existing villages with a Master Planned mix of low and medium density housing, local industry, institutions and commercial. They would have traditional downtown cores, but feature circular residential and industrial streets, augmented by spokes connecting to regional cities. Intervening farmland, forest and recreational areas would be spared development. Post-pandemic economic stimulation could start with a couple of village make-overs north and west of the GTA's green belt. This would set the stage for civic infrastructure projects through the balance of the century. Think round-abouts and Master Planned expansion of small town sltes dispersed in midst of heavy industry/major employment regions.

Scan the NEOM site, a proposal to consider street-less urban clusters where families and businesses somehow thrive in harmony without transition and disruption. Just build Utopia and they come! An interesting concept, but economically impractical, except in Saudi Arabia.

Condensed from NEOM News: "NEOM has a vision of what a New Future might look like. In northwest Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea a living laboratory... a destination for those dreaming of exceptional livability and environmental conservation. Entrepreneurs research, incubate and commercialize ground breaking technologies -with international norms conducive to economic growth."

In Southern Ontario, we're looking for grassroots visionaries, farmer associations and corporate leaders to join in creating voter contagion, and hence, the consensus necessary to activate politicians; without pro-active land-use planning, the "Can't Do" mentality prevails -and by 2050, population growth ensures loss of nearly all productive farmland from Peterbouro through Southern Georgian Bay to Goderich.
