Indeed, we Southern Ontarians and Michiganders live in peril of the domino effects of nuclear plant accidents. - Needed is a long lasting powerful localized radiation-free energy source. In the face of Queens Park's irresponsible and stubborn insistence on expensive, polluting and risky radioactive energy (legacy fossil fuels and nuclear), concerned parents, grandparents, graduates and teachers must rally in support of going forward with affordable, safe and real clean energy. Perhaps some errant provincial leaders, like ST Paul, the Roman Centurion, will have a Damascus Moment. However, remaining silent is complicity -whether by idividuals, MPPs or school principals and trustees.
Inevitable concrete and metal deterioration in nuclear plants is the main reason refurbishment of aged reactors must stop; some readers may wish o Google: "concrete and metal deterioration in nuclear plants." The public is lead to believe that small nuclear reactors are benign. Not so. Maybe small in the sense of being similar to fossil-fueled power plants. Surely neither industrial sized nor dasiation-free. Uranium enrichment processes in ectricity generation are the same as those used to create weapons; plutonium, a by-product of nuclear electricity generation is also used in nuclear weaponry.
Still, the UN’s nuclear watch-dog (iaea) acquiesces to plant refurbishments and to proliferation of nuclear electricity generation, even though the uranium process is used by rogue nations to arm their intercontinal missels. Collectivrly, modular reactors would contribute as much to radioactive waste as do mega plants. Apparently, Canada never agreed to sign a United Nations treaty for the abolition of nuclear.
CONCLUSIONS:
No New Fossil Fuel or Fission Infrastructure allowed. The smog of fuel-burning engines, the limited-life of batteries and the prospects of nuclear accidents will gradually be replaced by Plasma electricity generators; a transition via a “slow takeoff.” Only by ralling key members in our personal networks will voters have enough muster to right a badly listing energy ship -before it's too late.
